Periodontal Disease

Periodontal Disease is defined as the inflammation of structures that surround and support the teeth. If this infection is left untreated, gum disease likely progresses where there is destruction of the jawbone. It is one of the most common causes of tooth loss. More importantly, if this infection is left untreated, it is likely to spread and infect many other organs and systems throughout the body! Periodontal disease is a risk factor for heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, dementia, chronic fatigue syndrome, brain abscesses, erectile dysfunction, and pre-term low birth weight babies to name a few in a growing list of pathologies. This is a disease. Like other diseases, it is contagious passed from person to person. All periodontal disease is caused by infection with one or more of 12 common bacterial pathogens.

• Treatment
  Our goal of treatment is to reduce the on going infection and inflammation, eliminate pockets if present, and address any underlying causes including general illness or other conditions that should be treated.
• Modalities of therapy include:
  • Laser Therapies: A 1064 Diode laser eliminates not only the bacteria permeating into the attached tissues it eradicates infection. In turn, reducing an un-healthy pocket back to a normal healthy maintainable range.
  • We then use routinely in every cleaning, a 810 Diode laser to reduce bacterial load around the teeth.
  • An ultrasonic scaler is an oscillating device that smoothly removes hard deposits, biofilm laden with bacteria and food off the tooth structures. This instrument helps eliminate the common practice of "painful scraping of the teeth under the gums". Ozone is placed in our ultrasonic water containers. This gives the best chance of full extermination of the bacteria, viral and fungus' that are at the forefront of this wide spread disease.
  • Fabrication of Perio Protect trays (as the above video shows) for the enhanced treatment or maintenance of the individuals periodontal condition or compliance in reducing the bacterial load.
  • We will also fabricate Ozone trays, which can be effective in reducing bacterial loads for months on high risk individuals.
  • Finish scaling with hand instruments and other rubber cup polishing are used to give you the "feel of clean teeth".
  • A Recare Frequency is individually tailored to keep your mouth in health. We use 3,4,6, and 12 month frequencies.
  • An Oral DNA test will allow us to utilize medicaments for specific bacteria. After the bacteria have been eliminated, we suggest using EVORA PLUS to introduce "good" bacteria into your oral environment.
