Raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico, his own father a general dentist, Dr. Melton attended Dallas’ Baylor College of Dentistry and graduated in the top 5% of his class in 1985. He continued his education with a one-year General Practice Residency at the University of Washington before practicing for seven years in Leavenworth, WA. In 1997, Dr. Melton took over the Wenatchee practice of Dr. Richard Washut and continued his solo career there until Dr. Tyler Green (a former five-year associate at Pearl Care Dental) helped him “retire” in 2012. Since then, Dr. Melton has worked part-time with Dr. Green.
His professional skills have taken Dr. Melton to Vietnam and Egypt with Operation Smile, Kenya, northern India, and very briefly to Afghanistan in 2011. His two most recent trips have been to Nepal, serving as Health Volunteer Overseas’ first-ever volunteer in the country in April of 2015, and then returning to aid in earthquake relief this past January. Dr. Melton’s “second career” is creative writing. He has the good fortune of being published nearly fifty times, and when he’s not reading or writing, he divides his time between fly fishing, two chocolate labs, and his unbelievably adorable grandchildren: Torin, Miles and Eilen.
